Excerpt:
Family Soros was born in Budapest, Kingdom of Hungary, the son of the Esperantist writer Tivadar Soros and Elizabeth Soros. Tivadar (also known as Teodoro) was a Hungarian Jew, who was a prisoner of war during and after World War I and eventually escaped from Russia to rejoin his family in Budapest.[11][12] The family changed its name from Schwartz to Soros in 1936, in response to growing anti-semitism with the rise of fascism. Tivadar liked the new name because it is a palindrome and has a meaning. Although the specific meaning is left unstated in Kaufman's biography, in Hungarian, soros means next in line, or designated successor; and, in Esperanto, it means "will soar".[13] Tivadar taught George to speak Esperanto from birth. Soros later said that he grew up in a Jewish home and that his parents were cautious with their religious roots.[14] Married and divorced twice, Soros has three children with Annaliese Witschak (Robert, Andrea, Jonathan) and two with Susan Weber Soros (Alexander and Gregory). His elder brother, Paul Soros, also a private investor and philanthropist, is an engineer, who headed Soros Associates and established the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for Young Americans.[15][16] Soros' nephew Peter Soros, a son of Paul Soros, married the former Flora Fraser – a daughter of Lady Antonia Fraser and the late Sir Hugh Fraser and a stepdaughter of the late 2005 Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter. Fraser and Soros separated in 2009. [17] His son Alexander Soros is also gaining prominence for his donations to social and political causes. Alexander led the list of student political donors in the 2010 election cycle.[18]

Marriages and later life

From 1956 until their divorce in 1977, she was married to Sir Hugh Fraser (1918–1984), a descendant of Scottish aristocracy 14 years her senior and a Conservative Unionist MP in the House of Commons (sitting for Stafford), who was a friend of the American Kennedy family.[9] They had six children: three sons, Benjamin, Damian, and Orlando; and three daughters, Rebecca, Flora, and Natasha (Natasha Fraser-Cavassoni), who are all also writers and biographers.[7][9] Benjamin works for JPMorgan, Damian is the managing director of the investment banking firm UBS AG (formerly S. G. Warburg) in Mexico, and Orlando is a barrister specializing in commercial law (Wroe).[7] Antonia Fraser has 18 grandchildren.[3]
On 22 October 1975, Hugh and Antonia Fraser, together with Caroline Kennedy, who was visiting them at their Holland Park home, in Kensington, west London, were almost blown up by an IRA car bomb placed under the wheels of his Jaguar, which had been triggered to go off at 9 am when he left the house; the bomb exploded killing the cancer researcher Gordon Hamilton-Fairley (1930–1975). Hamilton-Fairley, a neighbour of the Frasers, had been walking his dog.[4][9][10]
In 1975 Antonia Fraser began an affair with playwright Harold Pinter, who was then married to the actress Vivien Merchant.[1][7] In 1977, after she had been living with Pinter for two years, the Frasers' union was legally dissolved.[1][7] Merchant spoke about her distress publicly to the press, which quoted her cutting remarks about her rival, but she resisted divorcing Pinter.[1][7] In 1980, after Merchant signed divorce papers, Fraser and Pinter married.[1][4][7] After the deaths of both their spouses, they were married by the Catholic Church in the person of Fr. Michael Campbell-Johnson, a Jesuit.[11]
Harold Pinter died on 24 December 2008.[3]
She lives in the London district of Holland Park, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, south of Notting Hill Gate, in the Fraser family home, where she still writes in her fourth-floor study.[1][2][12]
Correcting those who notice only her physical beauty—remarked upon both in her youth and well into her seventh decade—some commentators stress that, "more than just a pretty face", she is an accomplished historian and "an intellectual".[13]
Already Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2011 New Year Honours for services to literature.[14]

Damian Fraser, chief Latin America equity strategist at UBS Warburg in Mexico City, said it was probably a little of both. "He's become a lot wealthier, and whether he likes it or not he's become a much higher profile international figure," Mr. Fraser said of Mr. Slim. "And Mexico has become a much more democratic country, so it's no longer sufficient to have a good relationship with the president and the finance minister to make things work the way you want. You need to have many more levers of power."

Orlando, 39, the son of the historian Lady Antonia Fraser, comes from a line of left-wing icons. His grandfather was the late reformer Lord Longford, and his step-father is that most truculent of champagne socialists: Harold Pinter.
The bride, for her part, boasted the truest of blue Tory roots: Sir Winston Churchill was her great-grandfather. Richard Hambro, her father, is from the banking family, and her mother, Charlotte, is now married to Earl Peel, a land-owning descendent of Sir Robert Peel, one of the most influential Tory PM's of the Victorian era.
On paper, the Hambro and Fraser clans ought to mix about as well as two up-market brands of oil and water. The sight of 600 society guests eyeballing each other during the service and subsequent reception at Claridge's prompted one of their number to declare the event "a political genealogist's wet dream".
The groom was more tactful. "My mother's family is very left-wing and Clemmie's is very conservative," was how he explained things. "It would be safe to say that our wedding will bring all sorts of different people together."

Richard Hambro

Richard Hambro, who died on April 25 aged 62, was a member of the Hambro banking dynasty, a leading investment manager and philanthropist, and a well-known figure on the Turf.

As founder chairman of JO Hambro Investment Management in 1986, Richard Hambro developed it into a successful independent concern which, in 2000, was sold to Credit Suisse. At the same time he was a major supporter of British cancer charities. His own last years were marked by a brave fight against cancer, a disease that also claimed the life of his mother.
Richard Hambro
As a passionate supporter of horse racing, Hambro served as a steward at Sandown and Ascot before being elected a member of the Jockey Club. He was later chairman of Newmarket racecourse. His other great passion was Wiltons, the famous St James's restaurant, which had been bought by his grandfather during the Second World War and remains in the family to this day.
Richard Alexander Hambro was born on October 1 1946, the middle son of Jocelyn Hambro and Silvia Muir. The Hambro banking dynasty traces its descent from Calmer Levy, a young Jewish merchant of Hamburg who moved to Copenhagen in 1778 to marry a cousin and take over his new father-in-law's trading business.
Following Danish custom, Calmer wanted to adopt the name of his native town, but it was misspelt on the tradesman's licence issued to him by the Copenhagen authorities and became Hambro.
Calmer's grandson, Carl Joachim, established a banking business in London in 1839, which flourished particularly in financing trade with Scandinavia. In the sixth generation of the dynasty, Richard's father was a stylish and entrepreneurial chairman of Hambros Bank from 1965 to 1972, when he was succeeded by his cousin Charles (later Lord) Hambro.
Richard was educated at Eton and Munich University before joining the family firm, one of the City's leading merchant banks.
He worked in South Africa and Italy before, in 1973, marrying Charlotte Soames, the youngest daughter of Lord and Lady Soames and the granddaughter of Winston Churchill. They had a daughter, Clementine, who in 1981 enchanted the public as the youngest bridesmaid at the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
