Because he's an Italian citizen and has admitted to tax fraud, Cipriani could face possible arrest and a permanent heave-ho from the US under federal law.
But a law-enforcement source said yesterday that Cipriani -- who mixed with boldface types including Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Calvin Klein, Michael Douglas, Harvey Weinstein and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs -- is back in the country "legally, and everyone that needs to know his whereabouts has been informed."
Another source said Cipriani is "in the process of hammering out issues" with immigration and customs officials. Vanity Fair reported this year that Giuseppe and his father had been "dogged by allegations of mob connections and shady political dealings" before they left the city. But it isn't believed that any deal Giuseppe made with the feds would require him to name names.
Page Six sources said Cipriani appeared relaxed during the impromptu comeback tour of his flagship eatery, shaking hands and chatting with customers.

Wild Oats Markets was an operator of natural foods stores and farmers' markets in North America. Burkle started buying Wild Oats stock in February 2005. By the time Whole Foods Market, a natural-foods grocer, agreed to pay $565 million for Wild Oats, Burkle was the largest shareholder of Wild Oats.[12]

Burkle sold his majority stake in supplier Golden State Foods to St. Louis-based Wetterau Associates for about $110 million. Golden State, one of McDonald's biggest suppliers, operates 11 distribution centers in the United States and abroad and two U.S. processing plants.[13]

On April 30, 2008, a Delaware judge dismissed Burkle's lawsuit against Raffaello Follieri, ex-boyfriend of actress Anne Hathaway, after he agreed to repay Burkle more than $1.3 million Burkle loaned him, a small amount of the money Burkle lost in the Vati-Con Scandal.[14]

In April 2006, Burkle accused New York Post columnist Jared Paul Stern of attempting to extort money from him in exchange for stopping the publication of stories in Page Six, the paper's gossip column, about his private life.[21] Burkle secretly videotaped two private meetings between himself and Stern, with the second meeting orchestrated and monitored by the FBI. Kalmanovitch, a former KGB spy and allegedly, for a time, a Mossad operative as well, was born in Lithuania in 1947 and emigrated with his family to Israel in the early 1970s. He built a fortune in construction and gambling enterprises in South Africa’s Bantustans (black homelands) and by the 1980s, Kalmanovitch had risen to celebrity status as one of the richest Soviet emigres in Israel, with close ties to Israeli leaders, including former prime minister Golda Meir and members of the Knesset.
In 1987, while traveling in London, Kalmanovitch was arrested by Scotland Yard and extradited to the United States to faces charges of fraud involving the theft and embezzlement of approximately $27 million in company checks and signature stamps, allegedly embezzled by an employee of Merrill Lynch and delivered to Kalmanovitch at the behest of Russian organized crime. Kalmanovitch obtained bail and fled to Israel, where he was promptly arrested and convicted of spying on Israel for the Soviet KGB over a period of 17 years. He was sentenced to nine years in prison, but released after serving a little more than five years, ostensibly due to health issues but reportedly as part of a deal between Israel and the Soviet Union for the release of refuseniks.
